The Microwave scatterometer or MSCAT for short is a space based messureing divice a variant of the Steped Frequency Microwave Radiometer or SFMR(smurf) its flown on the Polar orbiting satalite as one of the expereiments and it uses microwaves to penitrate the storms and get acurate wind and speed and that can lead to more acurate estimates of pressure with the passes of the satalite over head MSCAT is scheduled for its own satalite to replace quikscat sattalite that is failing its scheduled for launch in october from Vandenburg airforce base aboard MSCAT-1 space craft it also carris the TRIMM (tropical rain imager microwave mapper) that will be used to aid the Mscat in mapping the rain fall of the tropical cyclone and other tropical events . Mscat flew on the Earth Meterological experiment package in the shuttle its durived and run by NWS olney a DR James Miller hes PI( priniciple investigator for the EME)
