SPECAL WEATHER STATEMENT NWS NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OLNEY MD 1130 AM EDT AUG 23 2011 HURRICANE IRENE POTENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT LATEST MODEL RUNS HAVE IRENE REACTING WITH A FRONT THAT WILL BE PUSHING THROUGH ON THURSDAY AND CURVEING IT ALONG THE EAST COAST OF THE UNITED STATES MAYBE OVER THE MOUTH OF THE CHESAPEEKE BAY AS A CATEGORY 1 HURRICANE ITS EXPECTED TO MAKE LANDFALL JUST WEST OF CAPE HATTERS NC AND TRACK JUST INLAND FROM THE COAST THROUGH THE MOUTH OF THE CHESSAPEEKE BAY AND THEN MAYBE CURVE BACK OUT TO SEE THAT’S WHAT TRENDS ARE SHOWING SO STAY TUNED THE DISTANCE IN ERROR CAN BE AS GREAT AS 250 MILES AT 4 TO 5 DAYS OUT IN THE FORECAST TRACK SO STAY TUNED FOR UPDATES AS THINGS BECOME AVALABLE. WATCHES AND WARNINGS MAY BE ISSUED FOR THE LOWER CHESAPEAKE BAY AND ALONG THE EASTERN SHORE’S COAST LINE AS WELL FOR HURRICANE IRENE STAY TUNED TO UPDATES AT WWW.NWS.NOAA.GOV/HURRICANES OR WWW.NHC.NOAA.GOV ALL LOWER CASE LETTERS FOR UPDATES ON THE TRACK OF HURRICANE IRENE.
