HURRICANE IRENE UPDATE
THE LATEST MODEL RUNS SHOW IRENE AFFECTING SOME WHERE ALONG THE EAST COAST MODELS THIS RUN ARE TRENDING TOWARD THE NORTH CAROLINA SOUTH CAROLINA BORDER AREA AROUND WILIMINGTON NORTH CAROLINA THE MODELS INDICATE IT WILL BE A CATEGORY 1 STORM WITH WINDS OF 90 MPH.
THOUGH ITS ALSO FORECAST TO BE GOING A BIT FASTER THAN IT IS NOW AT 5 PM ITS MOTION IS WEST NORTH WEST AT 13 MPH ITS PASSING THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC’S NORTHERN COASTLINE . IRENE IS A BIG STORM AND COULD BE AFFECTING THE WEATHER LATER ON NEXT WEEKEND HERE AROUND BALTIMORE AND WASHINGTON DC. WE WILL MONITOR THE PROGRESS AND CORDINANTE WITH NHC IN MIAMI FLORIDA AS NEW MODELS COME OUT LATER ON .
A CONFERENCE CALL WITH THE HURRICANE CENTER IN MIAMI IS SET FOR 8 PM EDT AND DISSCUSSION WILL BE ABOUT WHAT TO DO AND WHAT WILL BECOME OF THE LATEST FORECAST TRACK OF HURRICANE IRENE . THE ONLY OTHER TIME WE HAVE HAD A STORM HIT THE WASHINGTON METRO AREA WAS TROPICAL STORM ISABEL BACK IN 2006 IT HAD WINDS OF 60 TO 70 MPH WASHIINGTON AND BALTIMORE SAW WINDS OF 50 TO 60 MPH AND MAJOR TREE DAMMAGE AND FLOODING FROM THE TORRENTAL RAIN AND FLASH FLOODING OCCURRED . RESIDENTS ALONG IN THE AREA ARE EURGED TO FOLLOW THE TRACK AS IT CHURNS ACROSS THE BAHAMMAS AND TOWARD THE NORTH CAROLINA COAST AND MAYBE TO THE WASHINGTON/BALTIMORE AREAS .
AND THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICES OFFICES IN STERLING VIRGINIA AND IN OLNEY MARYLAND ALONG WITH THE NATIONL HURRICANE CENTER IN OLNEY WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR IT AND WILL ISSUE WATCHES AND WARNINGS WHEN THE TIME COMES AND IF ANY WATCHES ARE REQUIRED FOR THE AREA.
