The NWS in sterling virginia has issued a winter weather advisory, which is in effect from 3 am to 12 pm est Thursday.
Freezing rain and sleet will overspread the region prior to sunrise. The mix of precipitation will continue through the morning, before mixing with and then changing to rain. Cold air, and thus freezing precipitation, will hold on the longest in the valleys.
By noon, all precipitation should change over to rain. Around one tenth of an inch of sleet and freezing rain will be possible by then.
A winter weather advisory means that periods of sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
