SPECAL WEATHER STATEMENT NOAA NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OLNEY MD 1:00 PM EST WEDNESSDAY DECEMBER 22,2010
STORM ON TRACK FOR STATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY EVENT …
THE PACIFIC STORM IS MOVING A LOT SLOWER THAN ANTISIPATED AND SHOULD REACH OUR FORECAST AREA SATURDAY NIGHT LEAVEING CHRISTMAS DAY MOSTLY CLOUDY. CURRENT MODEL RUNS INDICATE THE POSSIBLITY OF HEAVY SNOW FROM BOSTON THROUGH NEW YORK ON DOWN TO BALTIMORE/WASHINGTON. RIGHT NOW ITS TO EARLY TO GIVE PRECISE TRACK INFORMATION AS THE STORM IS STILL SEVERAL DAYS AWAY AT BEST HOWEVER WITH COLD AIR IN PLACE OVER THE NCA( NATIONAL CAPITAL AREA) THE CHANCE IS FOR SNOW RIGHT NOW MODELS INDICATE IT’S A 40% CHANCE FOR SNOW ON SUNDAY AND A 50% CHANCE ON SATURDAY NIGHT. PRECISE TIMEING AND LOCATION OF THE COASTAL STORM IS CRITICAL FOR SNOW AND HOW MUCH AS THE STORM GETS CLOSER AND MODELS COME INTO BETTER AGREEMENT WE WILL HAVE A REFINED FORECAST AND MAYBE REQUIRE ADVISORIES AND WATCHES AS IT GETS CLOSER TO THE EVENT. AMOUNT OF SNOW IS STILL HARD TO TELL MODELS DIFFER GREATLY ON AMOUNT OF SNOW SO WE ARE NOT ISSUEING A SNOWFALL FORECAST JUST YET. THE POTENTAL IS THERE FOR A SIGNIFIGANT SNOW EVENT AS THE STORM FORMS SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY DURRING THE DAY THE STORM SHOULD END SUNDAY NIGHT LEAVING COLD TEMPS BEHIND IT.
STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR LOCAL STATIONS FOR FURTHER UPDATES AS CONDITIONS WARRANT AND FOR THE POSSIBLE ISSUANCE OF WATCHES AND ADVISORIES.
