SPECAL WEATHER STATEMENT NOAA NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OLNEY MD 415 PM EST TUESDAY DECEMEMBER 21,2010
POTENTAL FOR HEAVY SNOW AND A MAJOR WINTER STORM OVER CHRISTMAS ……
PACFIC RAINS SPEAD EASTWARD THROUGH THE REST OF THE WEEK AND REACH THE EAST COAST BY FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY. THIS STORM IS MOISTURE RICH AND MODELS ARE STARTING TO AGREE ON THE TRACK AND PRECIPITATION TYPE THE AIR WILL BE COLD ENOUGH TO SUPORT ALL SNOW FROM WASHINGTON DC THROUGH BOSTON DEPENDING ON THE PRECISE TRACK OF THE STORM, THAT INFORMATION WILL BE BETTER DEFINED AS THE EVENT NEARS. AS OF RIGHT NOW THE SNOW IS SLATED TO START FRIDAY NIGHT AND CONTINUE THROUGH MONDAY THERE IS THE POTENTAL FOR SIGNIFIGANT ACCUMULATONS OF SNOW IN THE BALTIMORE/ WASHINGTON AREA THE EXCACT TRACK WILL DETERMIN HOW HEAVY THE SNOW IS IN THIS AREA.
NEW GUDIANCE WILL DETERMIN WHAT WE AT THE WEATHER SERVICE DO AS IT BECOMES AVALABLE CURRENT MODEL GIDENCE IS IN REASONABLE AGREEMENT THAT THE STORM WILL BE ALL SNOW FOR THE WASHINGTON/BALTIMORE AREA AND ALONG THE INTIRE EAST COAST FROM VIRGINIA TO MAINE. NWS OLNEY IS WORKING IN CONJUNCTION WITH NWSFO’S THROUGH OUT THE NORTH EAST AND WILL HAVE MORE INFORMATION AND POSSIBLE WATCHES AND WARNINGS FOR THE BALTIMORE/ WASHINGTON AREA
