COASTAL HAZARD MESSAGE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OLNEY MD 336 PM EDT FRI MAY 2 2008
...COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 6 AM EDT SATURDAY...
SOUTHERLY WINDS COMBINED WITH A NEW MOON WILL ALLOW TIDAL DEPARTURES TO SLOWLY INCREASE OVER THE MIDDLE PORTION OF THE CHESAPEAKE BAY TONIGHT. TIDAL DEPARTURES ARE CURRENTLY RUNNING UP TO 1 FOOT ABOVE NORMAL...MAINLY NORTHWARD OF TANGIER ISLAND. THESE DEPARTURES ARE EXPECTED TO RISE TO BETWEEN 1 TO 2 FEET ABOVE NORMAL TONIGHT. THIS MAY CAUSE MINOR TIDAL FLOODING ALONG THE LOWER MARYLAND SIDE OF THE CHESAPEAKE BAY.
WINDS WILL SHIFT INTO THE NORTH BEHIND A COLD FRONT SUNDAY NIGHT. THIS WILL BREAK THE PATTERN AND DIMINISH THE COASTAL FLOOD RISK.
THE NEXT HIGH TIDE AT CAMBRIDGE IS 2:39 AM SAURDAY MORNING.
A COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY INDICATES THAT ONSHORE WINDS AND TIDES WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE FLOODING OF LOW AREAS ALONG THE SHORE.
