Ice storm warning in effect until 7 am est Wednesday. The NWS in Olney Maryland has issued an ice storm warning, which is in effect until 7 am est Wednesday. The winter weather advisory is no longer in effect. Several rounds of rain are expected to move from southeast to northeast across the area tonight. Underneath the precipitation, the ground and air just above the ground remain at or below freezing. These at or below freezing temperatures are now forecast to remain in place until early Wednesday morning. This will lead to ice accumulations around a quarter of an inch, which may lead to significant travel problems this evening and overnight. These amounts of ice could also lead to downing of trees and power lines. An ice storm warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of ice accumulations will make travel extremely dangerous. Travel is strongly discouraged. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Ice accumulations may lead to snapped power lines and falling tree branches that add to the danger.
