Winter weather advisory now in effect until 8 am est saturday, The winter weather advisory is now in effect until 8 am est saturday. An area of precipitation over kentucky and western west virginia continues to move east this evening toward the advisory area. This next round of precipitation is expected to affect western maryland, the eastern west virginia panhandle and northwest virginia between by midnight. The precipitation will develop eastward across northern virginia and central maryland between midnight and 2 am, and develop into northeast maryland including the baltimore area between 1 and 2 pm. Temperatures in the advisory area are expected to be near freezing through the overnight hours especially in the colder valleys. Rain mixed with freezing rain and sleet is expected across the advisory area overnight. Any ice accumulation from freezing rain and sleet will be minimal, but even a small accumulation of freezing rain could cause hazardous icy conditions on untreated surfaces. A winter weather advisory means that periods of mixed precipitation in the form of snow, sleet, or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving and walking.
