A mixed bag of wintry weather will greet travelers on Wednesday, considered to be the busiest travel day of the year.
According to the Winter Weather Center, snow tonight will develop in the northern Rockies before moving into northern Colorado and east to Nebraska.
By Wednesday, the cold front will drop out of the mountains onto the Plains, with a wave of storms riding the front spreading a mix of rain and snow from the Front Range of the Rockies to the Great Lakes.
The American Automobile Association reports that a record 38.7 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home over the five days beginning Wednesday, with approximately 80 percent of those trips by car. Meanwhile, the Air Transport Association expects nearly 27 million passengers will pass through the nation's airports over the 12-day period that began on November 16.
