URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OLNEY MD 130 PM EST THU DEC 17 2009
...WINTER STORM EXPECTED TO AFFECT THE REGION FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT...
.AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WILL MOVE FROM THE GULF OF MEXICO EARLY FRIDAY...TO JUST EAST OF THE OUTER BANKS OF NORTH CAROLINA BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON. HIGH PRESSURE CENTERED OVER SOUTHEASTERN CANADA WILL DELIVER COLD AIR PRIOR TO THE ARRIVAL OF THE STORM. THE PRIMARY PRECIPITATION TYPE FOR THIS STORM IS EXPECTED TO BE SNOW. HOWEVER SOME RAIN...SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN MAY MIX IN AT TIMES ALONG SOUTHSIDE VIRGINIA AND THE NORTHERN PIEDMONT OF NORTH CAROLINA. SNOW WILL DEVELOP DURING THE DAY FRIDAY AND CONTINUE INTO MUCH OF SATURDAY. THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW ACCUMULATIONS INTO SATURDAY.
